Why I Believe You Can Make Real Progress—No Matter Where You Are Now
Let me share a little more about my journey.
Let’s be honest, when I first started, I was doing everything "right" and still getting nowhere.
I was in San Diego, piecing together income from random gigs while grinding away on my dream: making it in comics. I hit the conventions. Showed my portfolio. Drew every spare second I had.
And despite all that effort? I felt like I was sprinting on a treadmill. Lots of motion, no momentum.
No matter how hard I worked, I wasn’t getting traction. I wasn’t getting noticed. And I definitely wasn’t getting better fast enough.
Sound familiar?. My dream? Breaking into the world of comics. But despite all my efforts—portfolio reviews, conventions, and endless practice—it felt like I was running in circles. No matter how hard I tried, I just wasn’t getting anywhere.
Rejection After Rejection… Until Everything Changed
Let’s rewind.
I wasn’t always the guy helping thousands of artists around the world.There was a time I was just another hopeful creator with a pencil and a dream.
I hit the convention circuit.
I printed my little portfolio.
I stood in line, nervous and hopeful, waiting for feedback from pros.
And what did I get?
Laughed at.
Ignored.
Once, I literally had my samples tossed in the trash in front of me.
Yeah. That one stung.
Then I Met The Guy
Right when I was ready to call it quits, I met a legendary comic artist. One of my heroes.
And unlike everyone else, he didn’t just critique my work.

That belief was the spark I needed to keep going when everything in me wanted to stop.
Then It All Fell Apart
Just when things started to click, my mentor passed away.
Suddenly. Unexpectedly.

I stopped drawing.

Stopped believing I had a shot.
I traded my pencils for spreadsheets and found myself trapped in a soul-draining 9-to-5 job that had nothing to do with comics, art, or the life I actually wanted. I tried convincing myself that maybe this whole comic art thing wasn’t realistic. I was at my lowest.
Until I couldn’t take it anymore.
A few long years later, I finally hit my breaking point.
I quit my corporate job. Sold my stuff. Then packed my bags and moved abroad. Maybe it was a meltdown, I don't know... but, I made a promise to myself: I was going to give this art thing everything I had. No backup plan. No “maybe later.”
I started drawing like my life depended on it. Because it did. I posted on social media daily. Sketched for 10+ hours a day. I treated my dream like a job. I didn’t just dabble. I went all in.
And then... it happened. I got the email.
