STOP GUESSING. LEARN HOW TO TURN THE DRAWING IN YOUR HEAD INTO A FINISHED COMIC-ART PIECE.

THE FIRST COMIC ART MASTERY LIVE DRAWING INTENSIVE

A small, hands-on live experience where you'll draw alongside Mike Van Orden and learn the repeatable process for taking an idea from imagination through construction, correction and development toward a finished comic-art piece.

OCTOBER 1–4, 2026 • Preview Night + 3 Live Training Days + Private Bootcamp Bullpen + 14-Day Challenge

First cohort. Small group. First come, first served.
Live Bootcamp: Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Mike Van Orden comic art process — add final artwork here

You may already know the pieces. The problem is putting them together.

You know some anatomy. Gesture. Perspective. Composition. Rendering.

But when the pencil hits the page, the pose gets stiff. The drawing feels flat. You start detailing too soon. Or you simply reach that frustrating moment where you think: “Okay… what do I do next?”

This intensive is designed to change that. Instead of collecting more disconnected techniques, you'll learn how the pieces work together and, just as importantly, what order to solve the problems in.

FIND IT → BUILD IT → FINISH IT

I don't want you to leave with just another drawing. I want you to leave knowing how to build one.

FIND IT
Get the idea moving. Break the blank page. Establish gesture, action, simple forms and a strong foundation before chasing finished lines.
BUILD IT
Turn rough ideas into convincing comic art using construction, anatomy, foreshortening, perspective, depth, posing and composition in the order they matter.
FINISH IT
Identify the lines that stay, correct what isn't working, strengthen form and hierarchy, and push the drawing toward a finished piece without losing its energy.

October 1–4, 2026. Four Touchpoints. One Focused Transformation.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1 • PREVIEW NIGHT: Welcome to the Bullpen

Meet Mike and the other artists, get situated inside the private community, make sure your setup is ready, establish your goal for the weekend, learn how the challenge works and post your starting artwork.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 2 • DAY 1: FIND IT

From imagination to the page. Break through the blank page with line of action, gesture, simple forms, construction, posing and three-dimensional thinking. Learn what to focus on before details ever enter the picture.

Outcome: “I know how to start.”

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3 • DAY 2: BUILD IT

Make the drawing work. Bring anatomy, proportions, foreshortening, perspective, depth, camera angle, silhouette and composition together while watching the decisions and corrections happen live.

Outcome: “I know how to make the drawing work.”

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4 • DAY 3: FINISH IT

Develop it without killing the energy. Refine keeper lines, correct remaining problems, strengthen form, values and hierarchy, and push your drawing toward presentation quality.

Outcome: “I know how to take an idea from beginning to end.”

Don't Just Watch Me Draw. Learn How I THINK When I Draw.

You'll see the rough beginnings, mistakes, corrections and problem-solving that usually happen between the sketch and the finished artwork. Ask questions while it's happening. See why something feels flat, stiff or “off” and what I do to fix it.

Your artwork could become part of the lesson.

Once enrolled, you'll be able to submit artwork you're struggling with inside the private Bootcamp Bullpen. Mike will pull selected pieces up on screen during the live sessions, draw directly over them, make corrections and explain what he would change and why.

Standard members: selected live critiques when time allows. VIP: guaranteed personal critique during the follow-up experience, planned for the weekend of October 17–18.

Camera Optional. Participation Encouraged. Pressure = Zero.

You never have to turn your camera on. Come completely faceless if you prefer. Speak through your microphone, raise your hand when you have a question, type in the live chat, or simply watch and draw.

The goal is to make this interactive without ever putting you on the spot.

Your Private Bootcamp Bullpen

The experience starts before the first drawing session. You'll receive access to a private Comic Art Mastery community space where the first cohort can introduce themselves, post artwork, share progress, ask questions and interact with other serious artists.

You'll also be able to communicate with Mike through the community during the Bootcamp experience. Access and direct-message boundaries will be clearly defined so everyone knows exactly what's included.

This Is For You If…

  • You can see the drawing in your head but struggle to translate it to the page.
  • You know individual fundamentals but get overwhelmed trying to use them together.
  • Your drawings often feel stiff, flat or overworked.
  • You start rendering before the underlying drawing is really solved.
  • You want to draw more confidently from imagination.
  • You want to watch a working comic artist solve problems in real time instead of only seeing the polished result.
  • You want structure, accountability and other artists around you while you work.

You do not need to be advanced. You need basic drawing tools, curiosity and a willingness to work through the process.

Questions? Start Here.

Do I have to be on camera?

No. Camera use is completely optional. You can participate faceless through microphone, hand-raise or live chat.

What supplies do I need?

Paper and pencil are enough. Digital artists are welcome to use their preferred tablet/software. You do not need expensive materials.

What if I can't attend every minute live?

The plan includes downloadable session recordings so you can revisit the teaching. Final recording-access details will be confirmed before enrollment opens.

Can Mike critique my artwork?

All enrolled artists can submit work for possible live draw-over/critique during the intensive. Because the group is limited and time is finite, Standard does not guarantee that every submitted piece will be critiqued. VIP is designed to include guaranteed personal feedback.

Can I draw on my iPad or tablet?

Absolutely. If you plan to draw on the same device you would normally watch on, arrange a second screen so you can see and hear the live instruction while drawing.

What skill level is this for?

The intensive is aimed at aspiring comic artists who know at least some basics but want a clearer process for putting everything together. The emphasis is on thinking, construction, problem-solving and repeatable process rather than showing off advanced rendering tricks.

What payment methods will be available?

Checkout supports major credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna and Afterpay. Some payment options, including installment services, may appear only when available and eligible for your location and purchase.

Stop Wondering What To Do Next.

Come draw with me. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Fix them. Learn the process behind the finished artwork and leave with a system you can keep using long after the weekend is over.
